Dental fillings provide a cover over the damaged tooth, so that you can continue to use your teeth without fear of further damage. In some cases, dental fillings can become necessary, even if you have a very good oral hygiene routine at home.

Amalgam fillings are silver and more obvious to see in your mouth.
There are also white composite fillings, which are tooth coloured and can last longer.

The price of fillings depends on the difficulty of the procedure, and the type and amount of material used.

We can help with advise with your regular tooth brushing, keeping your gums healthy and preventing tooth decay. By following our advice and adopting good oral hygiene, you can help protect against a wide range of problems.

We will always treat you as an individual to make sure that you receive the right care at the right time. Our dental hygienists and therapists can provided more help and information about the importance of good dental hygiene and with regular cleaning to prevent gum disease and keeping your mouth healthy and trouble free.

It is important for children to get into the habit of going for regular dental appointments at an early age, so that they are aware of how to care for their teeth.
Once their adult teeth start to come through, our dentists can keep an eye on how their teeth are developing and look out for signs of dental decay early on. As children get older, we can also advise on orthodontic teeth straightening options if necessary. On occasions, our children’s dentist may find it necessary to apply topical fluoride and a fissure sealant (a tooth coloured sealant) to the biting surfaces as a further aid to help prevent children’s tooth decay.
We welcome new patients to the practice and would be delighted for you to join us.

Different care options available for new patients at The Bridges Dental Surgery :-

  • DENPLAN independent payment plan.
  • PRIVATE fee per item

Your very first appointment may take a little longer as we want to spend a little time getting to know you and your mouth. We will also ask you to complete a medical questionnaire as your general health may affect the dental treatment you receive.
You will spend around 20 minutes with your dentist, who may want to take digital radiographs (x-rays) to check what’s going on behind the scenes such as hidden decay or bone loss that has resulted from gum disease.

We will then carry out a thorough examination, including oral cancer screening, checking your teeth, gums and surrounding tissues. We will also be sure to listen responsively to any of your dental worries or problems.

Following an initial assessment, we will talk you through your treatment options so you can decide on an appropriate course of action, with plenty of helpful guidance from us. We will also be upfront about the cost of any proposed treatment so you know exactly what to expect and can plan accordingly.

Give us a call on 01291 423280 for a chat about our practice or if you would like to register with us.

Tooth coloured fillings for a great natural look. At The Bridges Dental Practice we can treat tooth decay and cavities with ‘white’ composite fillings (also known as tooth coloured fillings) where appropriate. Most people prefer these to traditional silver fillings as they look more natural and are much less noticeable when you laugh or smile.

One option to improve the cosmetic look of your smile is to have your metal-coloured fillings replaced with tooth-coloured or ‘white’ fillings. This is a safe procedure that entails one of our dentists removing any decay from your tooth, taking out the metal or amalgam filling and placing a tooth coloured filling instead. The new filling is made from a very hard substance and will withstand the forces in your mouth when you bite and chew over a long period of time. This will allow you to smile without a metallic glint in sight, giving your teeth a more natural appearance overall.

As dentists we believe prevention is always better than cure and will always encourage and help you to look after your teeth so you don’t develop tooth decay in the first place. If you do have decay and need a filling then we recommend white fillings as a good solution that is both aesthetic and functional

If you have a dental emergency within normal working hours. Pleas contact the practice on 01291423280 and we will offer you advice and if necessary make an appointment with one of our dentists.

CANCELLATION AND MISSED APPOINTMENT POLICY

CANCELLATION OR DELAY OF AN APPOINTMENT BY THE PRACTICE
We will only cancel or delay a patient’s appointment in unavoidable circumstances. In such cases, we will take the following steps:
The patient will be contacted as soon as the practice is aware of the need to cancel or delay the appointment.
At the time of contact, the patient will be offered a new appointment at the earliest time available. If the patient is unable to commit to a new appointment during that contact, we will ask them to get in touch at a later time, when we will offer them the next available appointment.

CANCELLATION OF AN APPOINTMENT OR MISSED APPOINTMENT BY A PATIENT
In order to ensure that we can offer prompt and convenient appointments to all our registered patients, and to avoid any unfilled surgery time, we have adopted a late cancellation and missed appointment policy.
If you:
• Fail to attend more than 1 appointment within a 24 month period
• Cancel more than 1 appointment with less than 48 hours’ notice within a 24 month period.
• Fail to attend an appointment and cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours’ notice (in any combination within a 24 month period).

Cancellations should be made by text message/email or telephone on: 01291 423280.
A charge of £1 per minute of appointment missed will be applied for late cancellation and missed Hygienist and Dental appointments.

For example:-

A 30 minute missed Hygienist appointment will incur a £30 charge.

A 20 minute missed Dental appointment will incur a £20 charge.

These charges will be payable before any further appointments can be booked.

At any missed appointment or late cancellation a letter will be sent to you outlining the policy. If within a 24 month period another appointment is missed or cancelled with less than 48 hours’ notice, we reserve the right to withdraw further NHS dental care at Bridges Dental Surgery. Any appointments you already have scheduled may be cancelled at the absolute discretion of the Surgery.

We will provide you with a printed appointment card, when initially making the appointment at reception. You will also continue to receive our courtesy email/text reminder 2 days before the appointment, this allows ample time to cancel or change an appointment if required.

Any appeals about missed or cancelled appointment decisions by a patient should be made in writing to the Practice Manager, Nicola Mahoney
